Everything Is Under Control
For as the heavens are higher than the earth,
so are my ways higher than your ways,
and my thoughts than your thoughts.
Isaiah 55:9
God has everything under His control, and I am so glad He does! When needed, I have always thought of myself as someone who could make a decision quickly, but not impulsively. After weighing all the options, I then think things through rapidly, including asking God to help me determine His will in the matter. Then I would move forward with what I thought would be the best plan of action. It seemed I could always make the best plans, but working the plan would end up being very challenging. Most times, thanks to God’s intervention and His tweaking the details, things would work out all right.
I have found when relying on God and His ability to work through any difficulty – even of my own making, sometimes – He has always been there to work the plan, especially if I have gotten ahead of myself with hasty choices I have made.
I am thankful God has always been the One who puts the pieces of the puzzle of my life together. Before I was saved, I would labor over choices and wonder should I do this or should I do that? I was so insecure until the Lord saw my broken spirit and proved to me that He not only could, but more importantly He would guide my every decision if I would be willing to trust Him. I placed my utmost trust in Him that day, and He has always proven to be faithful to guide me, even to this day.
At my church around the altars of prayer, faithful saints would sometimes give helpful comments to encourage someone to continue to pray until they received the answer they needed from God. On one side of the seeker, one prayer partner may be saying, “Just hold on! Don’t give up! God will answer!”, while on the other side, the other might be saying, “Just let go and let God!” Sometimes, even good counsel and advice can be confusing. Even discerning the Lord’s will in a matter can be perplexing as we try to determine is this thought from God or is it not?
Sometimes it seems I am still learning that original lesson of should I do this or should I do that? Life’s challenges will confront us every day, but I can testify that still today, God is trustworthy and still under control of all situations. I don’t need to make hasty choices anymore, because first and foremost, I can ask Him what is best for me; not just for tomorrow, or today, but for this moment – what would You have me do? God has been faithful, and God is faithful, and I can fully trust Him to complete the puzzle of my life and make it into the beautiful picture that He had purposed for it. I am so thankful that the Lord has even the smallest details in His capable hands and I thank Him for all He has done and all He still plans to do until we meet Him face to face. Until then, I thank God for continuing to guide me and I praise Him for having complete control over everything.
