"Blessed is the people that know the joyful sound: they shall walk, O LORD, in the light of thy countenance."

Psalm 89:15

I love to listen, sing along, or simply enjoy music that honors God. Whether it is singing hymns with the congregation or singing without restraint in my car while listening to my favorite playlist, I simply enjoy praising God by song. In a quieter moment or even during a stressful situation, it is even better to realize I have a song that the Lord has dropped into my thoughts, and it perfectly fits exactly what I am facing at the time.

Recently I recalled a song that I had heard in a concert some years back. The song was “He’s Still Waiting at the Well,” which tells the story of the woman at the well where God offered her to drink of His Living Water. Just thinking about the title though, the Lord let me remember that He is, even today, still waiting at the well to offer me a refreshing drink of that precious water. That song spoke a lesson to my heart which applies to all believers in Christ.

When we begin the day reading His Word, that valuable water energizes the spirit within us as much as the breakfast we may be enjoying at the time. After striving to find a solution to a difficult problem with no resolution in sight, we can pause and take a drink of that refreshing water and be reminded that God will have just the answer we need in His perfect time. His presence with us while taking a much-needed break, enjoying a snack or sipping a cool drink assures us that He is right there with us throughout our entire day. When we are exhausted at the end of the day, taking the time to whisper a prayer to Him is like taking a taste of that water which gives strength to complete whatever else still needs to be done. While doing mundane things throughout the day like brushing our teeth and rinsing out our mouth, we can remind ourselves that the Living Water is available at any time to bring refreshment and draw us nearer to God, who is always waiting for that time together, no matter how brief the thoughts or praise we offer to Him.

Music is a priceless commodity we can access. An ageless hymn, a favorite song you hear over and over again or a new release that has hit the heights of popularity; whatever style it may be, music speaks to the heart. Sometimes it is the lyrics that convey a message to us, or the swelling melody mixed with beautiful harmony that touches our heart and encourages us. Best yet, music that expresses our worship and praise to honor Him as Lord of Lords and giving thanks to Him for all He has done in our lives, that is music to God’s ears!
